We are incredibly excited to see the future of not only The Gay Horse drag events but to also program more Queer events (look out for Pride month 2023!). As an arts venue, we owe so much of our heritage to the LGBTQI+ community and having events which celebrate and put our this heritage at the forefront of the conversation is such a great privilege. Judging by the response we have had, this is what locals want too! A huge thank you to all the talented performers and supportive audience who have made this possible. It really does get better. -RJR

The Gay Horse

Kingston isn't known for having many queer spaces, strange for a pretty isolated London Borough- The Grey Horse was jokingly dubbed 'The Gay Horse’ by local members of the LGBTQ+ community a few years back because of our rainbow flags and celebrations of pride month. So when Seoul Drag Parade heard about our venue and asked if we would be interested in Drag events we knew this would be the start of something special. As you can imagine the name of the night followed pretty easily! Seoul Drag Parade began hosting events at RJR in 2022 and the response has been overwhelming.

Seoul Drag Parade is oriented around drag, an exaggerated, performative form of gender expression. As organizer Ali Zahoor explains, "Drag is essentially a performance of gender, identity, sexuality, culture, feelings, or all of the above through makeup and/or clothes"
